Sussex Osteopaths
Our 6 Osteopaths have all undergone extensive training before joining the practice, to degree and master standards. They undergo continued professional development programmes to keep up to date, refresh old skills and learn new ones.
The existing osteopaths have chosen each Osteopathic team member based on their skills and how we envision them working alongside us. It matters to our practice, that not only are you treated by an experienced team, but the team members also work harmoniously. This teamwork and knowledge of each other allow them to liaise with one another, cross-refer, and grow as a team.
Many thousands of local people recognize the team for their expertise in helping with back and peripheral joint problems. They also work hard to empower patients to improve their wellbeing and fitness, providing more lasting wellbeing results.

Osteopaths- Regulated and Allied Health professionals
The General Osteopathic Council (GOSC) entitles only those registered to use the term Osteopath, which is a protected title. Each registrant must comply with strict standards of practice and professional conduct. Broadwater Osteopathic Practice only has GOSC registered osteopaths .
Osteopaths are also recognised as Allied Health Professionals (AHPs). There are 14 registered AHPs, Physiotherapists being one of the other AHP professionals. This status has led to more Osteopaths working within the NHS alongside physiotherapists, and we hope to see more join in the next few years. Osteopathy is no longer seen as an alternative medical practice and this is a great step forward. Chiropractors are yet to have this same title.

What does osteopath treatment involve?
All of our team are slightly different in the way we work. Each will adapt their skills to suit the needs of the patient.
A treatment may include massage, mobilisation, manipulation, stretching and trigger point work.
Some of our osteopaths have additional skills they may include such as electrotherapy treatment or dry needling, a form of acupuncture.
We have 2 osteopaths who also provide cranial osteopathy. This form of treatment is very gentle and involves no spinal manipulation.
High velocity manipulation (the cracking) is not used on every patient in treatment and indeed it is not appropriate for everyone. If this form of treatment is included in a treatment session, it will be agreed upon by a patient before included.

Is Osteopathy Safe
Osteopathic treatment is very safe, particularly when you compare it to other interventions and pharmaceutical interventions used to treat pain.
Some risks associated with treatment include stiffness and soreness post-treatment, but the overall risk compared to other interventions is very low.
Effective case history taking, examination, and thorough screening minimize risks.
