The Sunflower Programme for children. Helping them reach their full potential, Worthing, West Sussex

Please note these exerts are taken directly from the Sunflower Trust.

In these days of fast food, fast living and quick fixes, there’s little wonder that many of our children struggle to keep up with the demands of school and life.  The Sunflower Programme has helped hundreds of children – many with diagnosed behavioural, learning or health difficulties, others who are underachieving at school and some who for no obvious reason need a little extra help to achieve their potential.

The Sunflower Programme is a unique patient-centred approach to health and wellbeing for under-achieving children.  Measurably matched individually to each child, we can demonstrate an incredible average improvement of over 70% in a child’s overall health and wellbeing.  The Sunflower Programme is too good to ignore!

It is the nervous system that mediates all aspects of our health and behaviour; the way we move, the way we think and the way in which we learn and behave.  The symptoms are, in nearly all cases, a result of confusion in the way in which the nervous system is integrating all aspects of a child’s health and behaviour.

We understand how to alleviate the physical, emotional and neurological symptoms that can result from the pressures of everyday life. We believe that balanced, integrated and healthy children will naturally perform better, feel happier, achieve more, mix better socially and have a greater sense of self-confidence.   The Sunflower Programme is a holistic, gentle, drug-free, non-invasive alternative and is totally unique to each child we see.

The Sunflower Programme is a comprehensive and efficient natural health system devised for screening out and effectively dealing with many of the underlying imbalances that make concentration and learning more difficult.

What does it involve?
The Sunflower Programme investigates, in measured ways, hundreds of factors which contribute to the difficulties that an increasing number of children suffer from in regard to learning, health, confidence, behaviour and self-esteem.  Children are invited to go through a complete protocol which seeks to integrate various functional, chemical, mental and emotional elements more fully so that the children are able to access and employ more of their own potential for health and achievement. The whole screening and treatment procedure is divided into 10 key stages, over four categories, through which each child needs to pass.  Some children will not require treatment at every stage and not all stages show up in the order shown.

Pre-Screening
Questionnaire completion, initial consultation, assessment, scoring and report of findings.

Structural
Stage 1 – Integration of Muscles & Adaptation
Assessment and treatment of the alignment and functional integrity of the musculoskeletal system ensuring muscles turning on and off as they should as the body adapts to different positions – lying, sitting, standing and walking.
Stage 2 – Ability of the Body
Assessment and treatment of the fine reflex control systems relating to balance, coordination and gait, information input, storage and retrieval.

Neurological
Stage 3 – Left/Right Brain Integration & Processing
A series of challenges is set with various activities relating to reading, writing, numeracy including memory and recall.
Stage 4 – Clearing Negative Associations
Parents and children are asked to complete a list of situations, events and issues that the child experiences difficulties in handling.
Stage 5 – Eliminating Negativity/Creating Positivity
Procedures are used to help eliminate negative patterns of behaviour. The child is helped to construct more positive responses.
Stage 6 – Empowerment
The child is shown how to habituate their own innate abilities and responses more effectively in a way that empowers them.

Biochemical
Stage 7 – Balancing the Neuro-Biochemical Pathways
Assessment and treatment relating to neuro-transmitters and balancing the nervous system.
Stage 8 – Biochemical Assessment of the Glands and Organs
Diet and nutrition are assessed.  Screening tests are performed to investigate biochemical pathways in relation to acid/alkaline balance and performance of glands and organs.
Stage 9 – Biochemical Assessment of Inflammatory Markers, the Auto Immune System and Allergies
Further tests are performed for chemical imbalances and clearing inflammation pathways.  A range of allergies and sensitivities are also tested including reactions to bacteria, viruses, chemicals and metals, etc.

Feelings & Behaviour
Stage 10 – Positive Reinforcement
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) skills and techniques are used to reinforce and build on the positive elements of attitude and approaches to override disempowering beliefs and behaviour that may have been blocking a child’s normal ability to enjoy learning opportunities with self-confidence.  This enables them to accept more responsibility and enjoy handling challenging situations more effectively

Post Screening
Post-programme screening, assessment and scoring in comparison to prior Sunflower Programme state.

Ongoing – Maintenance
Some children need maintenance as they grow.  Periodic visits to a Sunflower Practitioner are advised to ensure against recidivism. Each period of a child’s life as they grow and change can cause new difficulties for which additional help and support may be recommended.

Helen Mayors, one of our osteopathic team at Broadwater Osteopathic Practice is just completing her training in the Sunflower Programme and will be offering treatments for children, from the age of 7 upwards. More information coming shortly.
