Homeopathy is a gentle form of complementary medicine with little or no side effects and is safe to use alongside conventional drugs.
The name homeopathy was created by its founder, Samuel Hahnemann and is derived from the Greek words for ‘similar suffering’ referring to the ‘like cures like’ principle of healing. In other words, a substance taken in small dilute amounts can treat the same symptoms it causes if it was taken in larger quantities. The philosophy behind homeopathy is that by restoring the balance of our body, mind and spirit we can achieve good health and well-being. Remedies are prescribed in either liquid or pill form and your practitioner will explain how and when to take them and how to get the most out of your treatment plan.
Taking a truly holistic approach, Homeopathy doesn’t separate the physical, emotional and mental symptoms, but takes the view that they are all interconnected. It is these aspects of health and wellbeing the Homeopath focusses on during a consultation in order to prescribe a remedy that is tailored to you as an individual. For example, discussing your symptoms, when did they start? How they affect you? How they make you feel? What makes them worse and most importantly, what makes them better? All of these aspects including lifestyle and healthy eating choices help create your own unique picture and help your homeopathic practitioner support your health and wellbeing.
