Aromatherapy massage for relaxation and wellbeing in Worthing.
Aromatherapy, also referred to as ‘essential oil therapy’, can be defined as the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences. These can be extracted from plants, herbs, flowers, grasses and fruits. Only a small amount of essential oil is needed, which is blended with a larger amount of “carrier” oil, such as, sweet almond or grapeseed. Commonly used essential oils include flowers oils such as camomile, lavender, rose and jasmine, and oils extracted from trees such as eucalyptus and sandalwood.
It was the French perfumer and chemist, Rene- Maurice Gattefosse, who coined the term “aromatherapie” in 1937 with his publication of a book by that name. In his book he discusses the use of these oils for physiological benefits.
There are various descriptions of the use of the term aromatherapy but Robert Tisserand quotes “Aromatherapy is a caring, hands-on therapy which seeks to induce relaxation, to increase energy, to reduce the effects of stress and to restore lost balance to mind, body and soul.”
Can everyone have aromatherapy?
Some essential oils are not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have, epilepsy, high blood pressure, low blood sugars, kidney problems, recent surgery or have suffered vein thrombosis. There are also certain medications that can be affected by some essentials oils like antibiotics, antihistamines, sedatives and anti-epileptic drugs. It is important to check with your therapist before booking your treatment.
Some oils, particularly citrus oils (such as orange, lemon and bergamot), react with ultraviolet light and can cause your skin to burn more easily. Your therapist will be able to advise on this.
What to expect in treatment
Your therapist will take a detailed case history from you to include your medical history and you lifestyle. Using this and the information you provide as to why you are seeking treatment, be it for general wellbeing or to aid sleep for example, they will blend an oil specifically for your needs.
Massage is then performed using this oil blend and is usually applied to the whole body in a full body massage. This includes the hands and feet. The oils are blended specifically for your needs and applied via massage to improve a sense of wellbeing.
Afterwards, you’ll probably want to rest up and enjoy smelling beautiful for a while. Please take some time to relax before you dash off anywhere
